Late Night Thoughts (1)
Many things happen in the winter. We prepare for a new year, holidays, and the cold. At the beginning of last winter, no one knew we’d be here a year later. Many people have lost family and friends. But there is a light to be seen through all of this.
I’m not asking anyone to forget the things that are weighing them down. Don’t compare your situation to anyone else’s. Don’t pretend that it’s all okay. There is a real pain that 2020 has brought to so many, and it’s time for us as a society to embrace the pain. Feel the emotion as it comes. Become overwhelmed in the moment, and recover in a healthy way. Something I did for years before 2020 was suppress the emotions to appear acceptable. It’s time we accept one another as we are. A hymn that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is “Just As I Am”. A communion staple, it has been ever more relevant as we have avoided communing.
I leave with this note, take your days as individual scenes in the story of your life. But also take time to feel your emotions. Empathize, express gratitude, but most importantly, be unapologetically you.
